Bark: Smooth gray-brown bark peels away to reveal shades of white, gray, and green underneath. The bark has beautiful,
marbled colors that stand out in the barren winter landscape
Flower: The flower blooms in early spring, typically around the
month of April. There are separate male and female flowers
usually two per stalk, the male flowers are green, white the
female flowers are bright deep red. Not showy.
Fruit: Green spherical ball filled with tightly packed seeds
in a capsule
Foliage: Leathery leaves are about 6” to 7” with roughly toothed edges. Medium to dark green on top, with a paler green underneath where the sunlight does not hit. In the fall these leaves become a yellow or brown color.
