Fruit: Oval, hard greenish purple to brown cone; attracts
birds, squirrels, and other mammals
Foliage: Alternate, simple, needle-like leaves; pale green
needless turn coppery red in Fall; leaves are like a soft evergreen needle, but tree is deciduous
Uses: Large parking lot islands, parking lot buffer strips,
reclamation plantings, screening and as a shade tree; can be
clipped into a nice soft hedge
