Fruit: Red berries in a large, hard woody cone, sometimes
considered messy
Foliage: Alternate, simple, ovate to elliptica, 5-10” long; medium green leaves with tannish brown underside; older, inner leaves turn yellow to brown and shed in Fall and again in Spring as new growth begins; leaf litter can be messy
Uses: Lawn tree, specimen plant, naturalizing, screening, buffer strips in parking lots and median planting
